Political Animals - Man The Mic
This, yes, was probably made somewhere nearby. You might not know these animals because animals hide in the wilderness and are keen to disguise themselves with the colors of nature. But here they are, coming out of the woodwork, to entertain you with crazy dancing and fancy turntable maneuvers. The question is, what is the world going to do with all of the culture and energy out there? Simply hide it in the empty warehouses where people in America used to manufacture stuff?
Political Animals
An emcee mans the mic. He is kind of like a Chuck D, sort of. Minus the Flava-Flav, which is perhaps to his strength. There are no hype men in this group. Everyone seems to have a particular task. At around 1:19, there is a clever cinematographical trick. The dance moves are not camera tricks.
The lineup seems simple. You have a live breakdancer. You have bass guitar. You have guy on turntables. And a live drummer. This is a pretty good formula. It could be a little bit 90's like Cannonball - Breeder on the bass line. Just kind of accentuates it with more crazy dancers. I'm picturing kind of like KLF back in the day with that 3am Eternal video (coming up next?)
About "Man the Mic"
"Nine to four? Rhymes galore." It sounds like he might only be a part-time worker on a daytime shift, but then again, he's "Pulling all nighters" on the elaborate words and phrases which are classic. Kind of good at 3:21 is where the turntablist and the drummer are able to slow down together. That seemed kind of difficult. I watched this video about 5 times to write this nonsense. "Sacrifice: Short sets, long nights." Female bassist is evident. The group does not perform misogynist lyrics.
They say "Yesh Yall," but this is a recording. The drummer is an avid Wu Tang fan, so much that when the band said, "drummer guy, we're filming the music video," he got out the Wu Tang shirt. Note other various teeshirts the guy might wear. One is Spiderbite Records. Another is like the PBS guy. You can't block this... There's a Keys on Kites flyer on the door. You know that place if you've ever been in Westville and had an inkling for an art show or tattoo. I even might have spotted a Sloppy Seconds banner in there somewhere.
