For most people, 1175 State Street is simply a building we drive by on 91. We have all used the cross fit sign on the top window as a point of reference for friends driving south to New Haven. Inside the mysterious building, in suite 215 is an independent pop up art exhibit featuring local female artists. Despite the heat, locals filled the warm room to marvel at the collection inspired by feminism. The exhibit features collage and sculpture by Laura Marsh, video by Sarah Lasley, assemblage and jewelry by Ashley Khirea Wahba, paintings by Hannah Plotke, sculptural video relics by Lani Asuncion, artist’s books by Grace Moskowitz, and a multimedia installation by Julia Cornell.

The exhibition was curated by locals Selby Nimrod and Hannah Plotke after meeting each other through featured artist Grace Moskowitz. "Shelby's art form is curating," says Grace, "it is great to show my work with a bunch of women who love art and each other." Fem//me is indeed a celebration of feminism and is inspired by the 50th anniversary of Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique, and performance artist Marina Abramovic’s denouncement of feminism earlier this year.

The exhibit runs until July 28.
